Duke of Edinburgh
Quinton House School actively runs the Duke of Edinburgh’s award throughout the year for pupils aged 14-18.
The award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities in and outside of school.
The D of E gives young people the opportunity to experience new activities and develop existing skills. There are three progressive levels, Bronze, Silver then Gold, each level has 4 sections with an additional section for Gold.
Volunteering: Aim: to inspire young people to make a difference within their communities or to an individuals life. To be completed at every level for a minimum period of time, usually a service to individuals, environment, animals or the community. See: www.DofE.org/volunteering
Physical: Aim: to inspire young people to achieve greater physical fitness and healthier lifestyle through participation and improvement in physical activity. To be completed at every level for a minimum of time. Can be anything that requires physical exertion, with evidence of physical improvement. See: www.DofE.org/physical
Skills: Aim: to inspire young people to develop personal interests, practical and social skills. To be completed at every level for a minimum period of time. Participants must show they have increased their expertise in their chosen skill. See: www.DofE.org/skills
Expedition: Aim: To inspire young people to develop initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery, by planning, training and completing an adventurous journey as part of a team. Length of expedition depends of level ranging from 2 to 4 days. See:www.DofE.org/expedition
Residential: (Gold only) Aim: to inspire participants through concentrated involvement with people they don’t know, who are usually from different backgrounds, and bring alternative views to the challenges they face.
Students can sign up to D of E at the beginning of every term; however, expeditions will only take place between March and August each year.
Quinton House D of E is run and managed by Mrs Tabor, an on site trained Co-ordinator and Leader.
