  • Budding chefs create Christmas cakes

    Budding chefs at Quinton House School, Northampton held a Christmas cake competition last week and raised funds for the school charity, the St Vincent de Paul Society.

    Baking started in November and competitors used their lunch break to make their festive creations. They were given the task of decorating their cakes with either traditional or novelty designs.

    Judging took place on Thursday 4th December, with a spectacular display of 62 Christmas cakes. Winners were selected from each year group.

    Competition organiser and teacher, Mrs L Murfitt said of the event, 'I was very impressed with the creativity of the students. They all spent a lot of time and effort on their cakes and the results were spectacular'.

  • Quinton House hosts 5-a-side football tournament
    27 November 2008

    A 5 a-side football tournament hosted at Quinton House School, Northampton took place on Wednesday 19th November in their new Sports Complex. The event was well attended with teams entered from the following schools; Quinton House School, Chiltern Primary School, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Harpole Primary School, Kislingbury Primary School and Hunsbury Park Primary School.

    All teams played with great spirit and determination but the eventual winners were Chiltern Primary School who won 4 games and drew 1. They received a trophy and the top two teams each got medals. Additionally Cameron Tucker of Chiltern received an individual trophy for playing with excellent team spirit.

    The final scores were:
    1 Chiltern Primary School (won 4 drew 1 lost 0) 13 pts
    2 St Mary's Catholic Primary School 9 pts
    3 Quinton House Junior School 8
    4 Harpole Primary School 7
    5 Kislingbury Primary School 4
    6 Hunsbury Park Primary School 1

    Dr Philip Irwin, Headteacher of Quinton House Junior School said of the event: 'All of us - players and spectators - enjoyed thrilling high-speed end-to-end games. Though the competition was fierce, the boys and girls from all the schools played with an air of good sportsmanship. This has been the first tournament of its kind in our new sports hall and it is fantastic to see the facilities being used to such good effect.'

  • Quinton House Junior School donate shoebox gifts to needy children in Eastern Europe

    Pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 collected over 60 shoeboxes containing Christmas gifts for needy children in Eastern Europe. They were inspired to find donationas after seeing an assembly given by the Samaritan's Purse charity.

    The pupils spent several weeks collecting items, which ranged from stationery and small toys.

    Headmaster of the Junior School, Dr Philip Irwin, said: 'The key stage two children each filled a box and the younger ones worked together as a class to collect gifts. The children donated notebooks, small cuddly toys and practical items, such a bar of soap or shower gel.'

    Dr Irwin added: 'This is our first year of running the project and we and the children were very enthusiastic about taking part'.

  • Successful GCSE Exam Results 2008

    The hard work of the students, teachers and parents has been rewarded with a 96% 5 A star to C pass rate in this year's GCSE exams. This outstanding set of results also includes 92% 5 Astar - C passes including English Language and Maths. It is so pleasing to see the effort and commitment of the students resulting in such an outstanding pass rate. As a school who does not select students on academic ability we are very proud of the students achievements.

    Cassandra Mathews and Oliver Goulden deserve a special mention with Cassandra gaining 9 Astars and 2 As, with Oliver gaining 9 Astars and 1 A. Coupled with this Cassandra has been commended by EDEXCEL for being amongst the top ten for Music with that exam board. An excellent outcome to their GCSEs and supports their drive and determination. 8 students studied GCSE German with 7 attaining A*s and 1 attaining grade A.

    These results show the continual raise in attainment at Quinton House School and the present building programme funded by the Cognita Group will further enhance the curriculum provision especially regarding the Sports curriculum.

    We wish al the students every success in their further studies in the new academic year.

  • 2008 A Level Results

    Quinton House School, as a non selective Independent School, is pleased with the results of our A Level students. The results are in-line with our expectations. Each individual student deserves the success they have achieved and these results will pave the way for their chosen career pathways.

    Jennifer Rogers follows in the footsteps of her older brother who left Quinton House School 3 years ago with straight As. Jennifer attained grade As in Biology, French, English and General Studies. She will going on to study English and French at Exeter University.

    In this Olympic year it is particularly pleasing to recognise the achievement of our Chinese students. Rai Mai (Ray) gained a grade A in Maths and Bs in Further Maths and Business Studies. This is an excellent achievement where he studied in his second language.

    Head teacher, John O'Leary reported that - 'These results reflect the hard work and dedication from the students, staff and parents. We offer all the students our best wishes in their further studies and vocations'.
