Applying for a secondary school place

The secondary school admissions process can be confusing, which is something we understand here at Quinton House. Changing schools at this age can also be potentially difficult for any child, which is why we do all that we can to ensure that every child visiting our Northampton school experiences our friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Our independent senior school, located in the beautiful Upton Hall, welcomes many of the pupils currently studying at our Junior School. However, we are also happy to welcome new pupils to Quinton House in year 7 and above. If you’re looking to find out more about the secondary school admissions process, we’ve highlighted some of the key steps for applying to our independent senior school.

The secondary school experience at Quinton House

Before beginning the application process, you want to know that a school is going to be the right fit. At Quinton House, we’re committed to offering a supportive and caring environment where pupils can develop life skills in a safe setting. We also encourage self-discipline among our students, with a firm but fair outlook designed to get the best out of our pupils.

We also want to ensure that parents are happy with their child’s experience with us, which is why we offer an “open door” policy – enabling parents access to the Headteacher and Form Tutors at any time, whether to raise concerns or simply ask questions. We warmly encourage parents to get in touch whenever they wish.

Secondary School Application at Quinton House

At Quinton House Senior School, we’re committed to making the information gathering and admissions process as smooth as possible. Our open mornings are a great opportunity to visit the school and experience Quinton House life, but you can also arrange a private tour if you would like to see school life in action. At these private tours you will still have the opportunity to meet our Headmaster, as well as seeing classrooms in action.

You can arrange a private tour online, or by calling 01604 684828.

Once you’ve set your mind on our independent senior school, you will need to complete a registration form and pay our registration fee. Then our Admissions Manager, Joanna, will arrange a time for your child to attend a taster day, which allows them to meet their potential form tutor and experience a typical day in lessons with classmates. Not only does this give them insight into life at our senior school, but it also allows us to assess behaviour and to gather feedback from staff members.

As part of our secondary school admissions process, we’ll ask to see a copy of your child’s last school report, and they will be asked to complete assessments in Maths and English to help us understand their abilities. Following the taster day, we always try to give you our overall feedback the next working day. If the taster day is successful, you will receive a formal offer letter by post.

If you’re still considering schools, then why not request a prospectus to find out more detail about our beautiful school. For more information on secondary school applications, please contact our Admissions Manager, Joanna Sainsbury. She will guide you at every stage of the admissions process and can be reached on 01604 684828 or at joanna.sainsbury@quintonhouseschool.co.uk.
