Quinton House School announced as an ISA Awards finalist
Quinton House School has been announced as a category finalist at the ISA Awards 2019. The ceremony is an annual event that celebrates success in member schools and recognises the breadth of quality and provision in independent education across the country. Quinton House has been shortlisted in the ‘Excellence and Innovation in Partnerships’ category.
The shortlisting recognises the development of global partnerships by the school over the last year. In the autumn term of 2018, the school initiated the ‘Christmas Around the World’ project. This involved more than 50 schools across the world coming together in partnership at Christmas time. Students were involved in several activities ranging from sending and receiving Christmas cards, following recipes that had been sent from different schools in different countries and holding a Christmas tree decorating competition that involved 50 global schools taking part. Schools took part from Singapore, Thailand, Chile and Brazil.
Quinton House also used digital technology with global partners on World Book Day. This time with a focus on reading and telling stories. Across the school there were activities that connected the students globally in discussions about favourite books, while classes acted out their favourite stories. A further project saw the school participate in the ‘Solar Buddy Project’ where connections with schools in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Brazil, Chile and across the UK saw students learn about solar energy. Students also built lights to send to children in energy poverty. This is a wonderful example of an effective global community partnership making a difference to the lives of others.
The winner of the award will be announced in November, at a ceremony in Leeds.
